Justin Beckett, chef/owner of Beckett’s Table, recently co-sponsored the first annual Feed Your Dreams competition with the Arizona Science Center to award $27,000 to the next big idea in food and science and giving back to the local community.
The grand prize package valued at $20,000 was awarded to Stone Hoe Gardens, owned by Bruce and Tina Ledbetter. The prize includes $10,000 from Beckett’s Table to help grow their business, $10,000 in public relations and marketing services from Up Agency, and the opportunity to apply for a one-year contract with Seed Spot.
Stone Hoe Gardens converts waste from local Whole Foods Markets into compost using a local technology, VermiSoks, which is then used to grow their produce.
John Bogart won second prize ($5000) to raise local Tilapia. Charles Lee was awarded the $2000 People’s Choice Award for his company, Mberry.
