Chef Lori A. Hashimoto

Chef Lori A. Hashimoto is the co-owner and chef of Hana Japanese Eatery in Phoenix, Arizona, known for its authentic, home-style Japanese cuisine. Born and raised in Arizona, she is a third-generation Asian-American with deep roots in the state’s agricultural community. Her father was a vegetable farmer, and her family endured the hardships of WWII internment, shaping her resilience and dedication.

Since opening Hana in 2007, Hashimoto has gained recognition for her commitment to quality, tradition, and inclusivity—particularly by employing female sushi chefs in a historically male-dominated field. In 2022, she was a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: Southwest, further cementing her impact on the culinary scene. Passionate about community and culture, she supports local businesses and remains a key figure in Phoenix’s dining landscape.
